12: PORTO's MAGALHAES made a sudden break from midfield that took him deep into the REAL MADRID half. He looked up, dummied inside and let loose a cross into the area. QUIQUE backed DRULOVIC in an attempt to gain the better hand but the clever PORTO player simply moved to his left and the defender stumbled backwards, leaving the PORTO player to have a clean shot at the goal. The PORTO fans roared as it sailed into the top corner for a spectacular GOAL!
16: PORTO had a throw in, taken by FILIPE. His short throw found KIKI who returned the ball under pressure from CARLOS. FILIPE took the ball inside and played a searching ball forward. The ball was knocked behind by KAREMBEU. JOSE CARLOS took the corner. He swung it in to the near post with venom. The keeper just managed to react with a outstretched fist and SALGADO cleared the ball.
26: PORTO'S KIKI handled the ball, giving away a free kick. JARNI (of REAL MADRID) quickly took it and sent QUIQUE away down the centre toward goal. JOSE CARLOS crashed awkwardly into him but kept his feet and passed to ALFONSO. He took the ball wide, shrugged off a challenge from PEREIRA and crossed into the box. PORTO's CARVALHO rose but it was the head of GONZALES that met the ball first. It sailed straight in for an excellent GOAL!
32: FILILPE (of PORTO) neatly sidestepped SALGADO and released MAGALHAES
on a forward run. He went to take it past VI.TOR but was pulled back and
fell. PORTO's FEHER raced over to confront VITOR but the Referee soon calmed
things down. REAL MADRID conceded a direct free kick.
38: The 'keeper hurriedly constructed his wall. The fans were silent.
SECRETARIO prepared to
take kick. He took careful aim before launching it at the goal. It
hit the wall and GONZALES launched it up field.
HALF-TIME: 1-1
55: A long ball from the PORTO defence was intercepted by KAREMBEU, but a beautifully timed tackle by FILIPE sent the ball spinning into the path of FOLHA who made his way toward the REAL MADRID goal. The fans were now beginning to really make some noise as FOLHA played a back-heel to FEHER who, despite the close attention of SALGADO, quickly released the pass for DRULOVIC who seemed to have timed his run between CARLOS and HIERRO to perfection but the Referee's assistant raised his flag and the ref blew for offside.
61: FOLIA of PORTO intercepted a under hit pass between KAREMBEU and
VITOR. The jeers were overwhelmed by the roar of the crowd as FOLHA stormed
to the by-line with KAREMBEU
nipping at his heels and launched a powerful cross. ALFONSO jostled
in mid-air with DRULOVIC but it was DRULOVIC's greater enthusiasm that
won the bail and he nodded it toward the goal. The goalie didn't stand
a chance as it smacked into the roof of the net for a truly wonderful GOOOOAAAAAAL!
66: QUIQUE took the ball past GARVALHO, did a neat one-two with GONZALES to get past JOSE CARLOS along the left wing and finished a great run with a cross into the area. It wasn't a very good cross but still it found ALFONSO who'd beaten FILIPE with a fine leap to head it at goal. Somehow it beat the outstretched hand of VALENTE and glanced off the inside of the post for a great GOAL!
74: REAL MADRID's defence cleared to SEEDORF whose flick on put QIJIQIJE on the attack. Before he could release the ball MAGALHAES had raced across the pitch and ploughed into him with a tackle so late the crowd had gone home! The Referee called MAGALHAES over to talk to him. MAGALHAES walked away moaning loudly as the Referee showed him (well, showed his back!) the yellow card. REAL MADRID were awarded a direct free kick. It was taken quickly but ended up safely in the hands of PORTO's goalkeeper.
80: PORTO made a substitution: JOSE CARLOS off, ALOISIO on.
81: PORTO's goalie launched the ball up field which was first headed
by JARNI and then VITOR, KIKI stole in and took the ball and put his team
on the offensive. He sidestepped HIERRO without any trouble, slotted a
perfectly weighted ball past KAREMBEU to FEHER who took dribbled into the
box and poked a shot at goal before SALGADO could close him down. BIZZARRI
had come off his line and the chipped ball left him stranded. GOAL!
