10: MARSEILLE had a throw in, taken by ALEX. His short throw found BAKAYOKO who returned the ball under pressure from REHMER. ALEX took the ball inside and played a searching ball forward. HIERRO looked to jab DAI-ILIN in the back as they both jumped for it at the far post but the ball fell kindly for DAHLIN as he shook off the sly defender. He didn't have much time so he slotted a quick ball at the goal. CHILAVERT saw it late but the shot was straight at him and he collected the ball easily in his arms.

22: MARSEILLE's BAKAYOKO won a 50/50 tackle in midfield with JARNI and advanced menacingly toward the REAL MADRID goal. RAVANELLI crashed awkwardly into him but he kept his feet and passed to PALERNO. He took the ball wide, shrugged off a challenge from TAGGART and crossed into the box. REAL MADRID's SEEDORF rose but it was the head of REDONDO that met the ball first. CHILAVERT had come out to close the angle but the power of the shot was too much for him and it hit the inside of the post. GOAL!

30: A midfield situation turned into an attack as REAL MADRID's SEEDORF made a fast sprint toward goal with HIERRO following up in support. A neat little side pass to TAGGART as he dodged past BLONDEAU was returned and he found himself chasing the ball with MARSEILLE's ALEX. The two players were shoulder to shoulder when ALEX unceremoniously barged him to the ground. REAL MADRID were awarded a direct free kick. The shot was struck hard and low but it hit.a defending player and was cleared to safety by MARSEILLE without any real danger

40: A midfield situation turned into an attack as REAL MADRID's JARNI made a fast sprint toward goal. On his heels were SEEDORF and HIERRO leaving MARSEILLE's DAI-ILIN a problem on who to chase. He hadn't got very far before he found himself unfairly body-checked by MARSEILLE's BLANC and he stumbled awkwardly to the ground. REAL MADRID were awarded an indirect free kick.

41: GONZALES quickly took REAL MADRID's free kick passing to an unmarked EDGAR who took advantage of an off-guard DAHLIN and made a dash toward the box. EDGAR passes the ball to DELGADO who then turned to attack. JARNI had made a beautifully timed diagonal run and DELGADO threaded the ball straight into his path which took him clean through with the keeper to beat. He attempts to dazzle the keeper with a beautiful step-over-type shimmy before sending the ball goal bound.The goalie was too slow to react and the bail found it's way mercilessly to the back of the net. The MARSEILLE defence looked on in disbelief. GOAL!
 

HALF-TIME: 1-1

52: The commotion from the stand as the police snatch squad went in "Italian style to remove some trouble makers did not put off BAKAYOKO who took a short pass from GARCIA and rushed forward and fired in a cross as JARNI and SEEDORF rushed to cover. It wasn't the best of balls but DAHLIN collected, turned, and snapped a shot at goal. The goalie's cat-like reactions saved a certain goal but he couldn't keep hold of the ball and it fell surprisingly back to DAHLIN for another shot. CHILAVERT was off his line and the ball looped over his flailing arms and into the net. GOAL!

57: MARSEILLE's goalie launched the ball up field which was first headed by SEEDORF and then JARNI, before REDONDO stole in and took the ball and put his team on the offensive. RAVANELLI chased him and eventually slid in unfairly to take his legs away from under him. There was a bit of scuffling between the players but the captains and the Referee were quick to sort it out. REAL MADRID conceded an indirect free kick.

58: MARSEILLE's free kick was quickly taken by DAHLIN who flicked it to REDONDO. He headed it on to PALERMO who brought it under control and sprinted up the field neatly passing an unprepared SEEDORF. REAL MADRID's HIERRO took up the chase and it was his messy tackle that sent PALERD4O tumbling to the.ground, much to the delight of REAL MADRID's cheering fans. REAL MADRID conceded an indirect free kick.

59: MARSEILLE had a free kick, which PALERMO took. He lobbed it over to REDONDO who seemed a bit surprised. JARNI intercepted, but before he could bring the ball under control REDONDO had woken up and just did enough to slide the ball to GARCIA who continued the attack. His silky-smooth skills took him past REAL MADRID's SEEDORF but a careless elbow from REHMER knocked him to the ground to end his great run. He quickly got up and turned to confront REHMER and a little pushing and shoving match followed. The Referee eventually broke them up, waved GARCIA away while he had a quiet word with REHMER. Despite the protests the Referee pulled out the yellow card and booked REHMER. MARSEILLE were awarded a direct free kick. It was taken quickly but ended up safely in the hands of REAL MADRID's goalkeeper.

65: MARSEILLE made a substitution: BRANDO came on for REDONDO.

86: A long kick from REAL MADRID's keeper bounced to-and-fro off the heads of the midfielders in a game of head tennis until it landed at the feet of GONZALES who intelligently played the ball out wide to DELGADO. He then slid the ball past BLANC and crossed into the area. EDGAR knocked the ball on. The ball came straight to the feet of ALEX who cleared the ball with venom, making sure it would clear the danger area.
