9: CHAMOT (of ATH MADRID) received a square pass from MANOLO and then made a quick break up the right. Once he'd avoided a lunging challenge from TAGGART he knocked the ball back into MANOLO's path who then cut inside to carry on toward the REAL MADRID goal. MANOLO played a quick one-two with HASSELBAINK and then slotted the ball through for VIZCAINO who then started to make a run between JARNI and CARLOS who simply raised their hands and the ref blew for offside to the vocal disgust of the ATH MADRID supporters.
23: REAL MADRID's defence cleared to SEEDORF who's first touch put JARNI on the attack. He slithered snake-like past GONZLAZ but came crashing earthward through a rough tackle from KOSECKI. The Referee waved advantage as DELGADO took up the pace and as CHANOT charged towards him he whipped an inch-perfect cross to GONZALES who took it down with his chest and struck the ball on the half-volley. ABEL had closed the angle down but the ball zipped over his head and into the roof of the net. GOAL!
34: ATH MADRID's KOSECKI intercepted a poor ball in the centre circle. His quick thinking and fine reactions sent MANOLO on a dangerous run at goal. He saw HASSELBAINK making a fine run and slotted a brilliant ball through toward him but the linesman's flag was up for offside against VIZCAINO.
44: A midfield situation turned into an attack as REAL MADRID's DELGADO made a fast sprint toward goal. He slithered snake-like past FERREIRA but came crashing earthward through a rough tackle from GAMARRA. The Referee waved advantage as GONZALES took up the pace and as CHAMOT charged towards him he whipped an inch-perfect cross to RAVANELLI who took it down with his chest and struck the ball on the half-volley. The goalie never got close and was left face down in the dirt as it slammed into the back of the net for a tremendous GOAL!
HALF-TIME: 0-2
52: ATH MADRID's defence cleared to GONZLAZ who's first touch put VIZCAINO on the attack. He took it past VITOR and played a tempting ball through the defence to KOSECKI but he was offside. REAL MADRID's free kick was taken by TAGGART and play resumed.
66: MANOLO (of ATE MADRID) made an exciting run up the left wing and
floated a cross toward
·the goalmouth. The REAL MADRID fans jeered with disdain as
HASSELBAINK used CARLOS as a ladder to send a glancing header towards goal.
KELLER was off his line and the ball looped over his flailing arms and
into the net. GOAL!
73: ATH MADRID's goalie launched the ball up field which was first headed by EDGAR and then HIERRO, before VIZCAINO stole in and took the ball and put his team on the offensive. He was checked by CARLOS but saw that KOSECKI had made a swift run toward goal so he played a looping ball into his path. REAL MADRID's defence moved up in unison looking for the offside but the linesman's flag stayed down which left KOSECKI with only the goalie to beat as he struck the ball with venom. The goalie didn't stand a chance as it smacked into the roof of the net for a truly wonderful GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!
82: RAVANELLI of REAL MADRID received a long throw from KELLER and turned
to go onward only to be confronted by JUGOVIC. He rode the full-blooded
challenge (just!) and made for ATH MADRID's goal. He passed to GONZALES
who's dummy saw EDGAR break past a sluggish defence. However, the linesman's
flag was raised for offside much to EDGAR's dismay. The REAL MADRID fans
started a rather unpleasant chant about the referee.
