11: REAL MADRID’s QUIQUE made an earth-shattering run up the left wing which ended with cross into the area. It found MORIENTES who tried to shoot but BLAKE tackled him cleanly and cleared the ball to MCATEER to snuff out the attack.
20: The opposing fans were embroiled in a chanting slanging match. Mean while BLACKBURN RVRS’s keeper had thrown the ball to McKINLAY who then knocked it on to FLITCROFT, who neatly chested it down, turned, and ran straight at the back tracking MORIENTES. He hadn’t got very far before he found himself unfairly body-checked by REAL MADRID’s SEEDORF and he stumbled awkwardly to the ground. BLACKBURN RVRS won a direct free kick.
21: The BLACKBURN RVRS bench were screaming at the referee to get the REAL MADRID wall the full 10 yards back. Once this was done the bench settled down and SHORT was able to continue with taking the free kick. SHORT powered the shot into the wall. The ball hit McMANAMAN, who went down, and the ball was scrambled away.
30: WILCOX and FLITCROFT collided in midfield and the ball ran loose to a surprised VITOR. He took up the attack for REAL MADRID. He slithered snake-like past PEACOCK but came crashing earthward through a rough tackle from KENNA. The Referee waved advantage as GONZALES took up the pace and as JANSEN charged towards him he whipped an inch-perfect cross to SEEDQRF who took it down with his chest and struck the ball on the half-volley. A magnificent dive from the goalie to punch it behind for a corner was met by a groan from the crowd. 31: REAL MADRID had a corner, taken by MORIENTES. He took a deer breath, a couple of paces, and sent the ball curving into the area. GONZALES collected it and tried to shoot but it bounced off KENNA and was eventually cleared to safety by SIIORT, much to the relief of the BLACKBURN RVRS defence.
HALF-TIME: 0-0
56: McKINLAY tried to hold the ball up on the halfway line but was caught in possession by a crunching tackle from CASTILLO sending him tumbling to the ground. The crowd roared but the Referee waved play-on as GONZALES took control and sent McMANAMAN on a dangerous run. McMANAMAN was then cleanly tackled by HARKNESS. The ball ran loose and was picked up by MORIENTES who was able to get to the by line despite the attentions of SHORT and pulled the ball back to SEEDORF in the area who manages to sweep the ball towards goal despite a last ditch tackle by PEACOCK.KELLY saw it late, made a great effort to get across, but it was in vain and the ball skidded sexily past his outstretched arms and into the far corner. GOAL!
65: BLACKBURN RVRS’s goalie launched the ball up field which was first headed by QUIQUE and then HIERRO, before WILCOX stole in and took the ball and put his team on the offensive. MIJNOZ NANDO crashed into him but he kept his feet and passed to JANSEN. He took the ball wide, shrugged off a challenge from CARLOS and crossed into the box. REAL MADRID’s goalie punched the ball away under pressure but it fell invitingly for FLITCROFT and he volleyed the ball goalward. The BLACKBURN RVRS fans roared as it skipped across the goal and bounced in off the far post! GOAL!
70: A long ball from the REAL MADRID defence was intercepted by McKINLAY, but a beautifully timed tackle by GONZALES sent the ball spinning into the path of MORIENTES who made his way toward the BLACKBURN RVRS goal. He slithered snake-like past WILCOX but came crashing earthward through a rough tackle from HARKNESS. The Referee waved advantage as QUIQUE took up the pace and as SHORT charged towards him he whipped an inch-perfect cross to McMANAMAN who took it down with his chest and struck the ball on the half—volley. The goalie didn’t stand a chance as it smacked into the roof of the net for a truly wonderful GOOOOAAAAAAAL!
72: BLACKBURN RVRS made a substitution: OSTENSTAD came on for BLAKE.
75: REAL MADRID made a substitution: SALGADO came on for MORIENTES. 75: The commotion from the stand as the police snatch squad went in “Italian” style to remove some trouble makers did not put off McATEER who took a short pass from JANSEN and rushed forward and fired in a cross as HIERRO and VITOR rushed to cover. OSTENSTAD collected it and tried to shoot but it bounced off SALGADO and was eventually cleared to safety by MUNOZ NANDO, much to the relief of the REAL MADRID defence.
87: BLACKBURN RVRS’s McKINLAY made a long pass to OSTENSTAD who then
neatly turned QUIQUE who was marking him and ran towards goal releasing
the ball to JANSEN, who had stormed up field in support from behind, hoping
his momentum would unsteady the REAL MADRID’s defence. He was checked by
CARLOS but saw that WILCOX had made a swift run toward goal so he played
a looping ball into his path. REAL MADRID’s defence moved up in unison
looking for the offside but the linesman’s flag stayed down which left
WILCOX with only the goalie to beat as he struck the ball with venom. The
goalie didn’t stand a chance as it smacked into the roof of the net for
a truly wonderful GOOOOOAAAAAAAL!
